Capital Planning can be divided into two categories based on asset
Terminology used in Capital Asset Planning
  • Base Cost
  • Use full Life of asset
  • Salvage Value
  • Scrap Value
  • Timing Adjustments
  • Amortization
  • Accumulation
  • Impairing
  • Capital reserve
  • Asset Class
  • Cash flow incidents
  • Depreciation
Depreciation :Reduction in the purchasing value of money  (or)  A decrease or loss -in value/ of Property
  1. SLN  method
  2. SYD method
  3. DB Period method
  4. DB Year method
SLN method: Straight  line method
Straight  line method depreciate cost evenly through out  use full life.
Depreciation per annum =(Cost-Residual value)/Useful life

Cost 17000
Asset Life  5
Salvage Value 3000

Formula 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012
Depreciation value  Cost-Salvage  value   14000 11000 8000 5000 2000
Depreciation life Depreciation value/Asset life 2800 2200 1600 1000 400
Accumulated value@end of yr   Cost -Depreciation value  3000 6000 9000 12000 15000
2000 depreciation value is less than the  salvage value so  we will  consider  this  value is scrap value

2009  cost will be Depreciation value  of  last year  so  it  will  be  14000 then  salvage value  3000 so  the Depreciation value for  2009 is 11000 ,for remaining  years  the  same  process  flow on.
